More than 770 bird species have been recorded in Bhutan — a remarkable number for a country the size of Switzerland — alongside tigers, elephants, red pandas and the elusive snow leopard. Because 70% of the country remains under forest cover, wildlife watching here is a matter of quiet patience rather than crowded game drives.
Our birding and safari programmes are designed with specialist naturalist guides. The Phobjikha valley hosts the winter roost of the endangered black-necked crane, arriving from the Tibetan plateau each November. The subtropical forests of Royal Manas National Park — Bhutan’s oldest protected area — shelter tigers, Asian elephants, gangetic dolphins and the magnificent rufous-necked hornbill.
How our safaris work
Small groups of no more than six travellers, early starts, and flexible routing based on recent sightings shared by park rangers. Vehicles carry spotting scopes, field guides and reference libraries, and all park fees, community conservation contributions and ranger support are included in the package price.
Who these tours suit
From first-time birders ticking lifers to photographers waiting for the perfect hornbill frame, our naturalists calibrate each day to your interests. We can also combine wildlife days with cultural highlights for mixed-interest families and groups.
