Official tourism portal of the Kingdom of Bhutan for Indian travellers

About Us

About the Royal Bhutan Tourism Development Council

A statutory tourism body working under the Royal Government of Bhutan to make travel from India to the Kingdom simple, sustainable and genuinely local.

Our Mandate

The Royal Bhutan Tourism Development Council (RBTD Council) was constituted to develop, promote and regulate tour operations for Indian visitors to the Kingdom of Bhutan. We design itineraries that spread visitor traffic beyond the traditional western circuit, generate livelihoods in rural districts, and uphold the national policy of “high value, low volume” tourism.

Everything we publish on this portal — from category guides to day-wise itineraries — is written by our destination team in Thimphu and reviewed against current permit rules, road conditions and festival calendars before it reaches you.

What We Stand For

  • Transparent pricing. Indian Rupee quotes with the Sustainable Development Fee, permits and taxes stated upfront.
  • Local employment. Every tour is led by licensed Bhutanese guides and drivers registered with the Council.
  • Responsible travel. We limit group sizes, avoid single-use plastics on trail, and prioritise locally owned lodges.
  • Traveller safety. Oxygen-equipped vehicles on high-altitude routes and 24×7 emergency coordination from Thimphu.

Our Offices

The head office is located in Motithang, Thimphu, with regional desks in Paro, Punakha and Phuentsholing for land-entry arrivals. An India helpdesk supports travellers in Indian Standard Time for quotations, documentation and pre-departure guidance.
